A careful application starts with accurate information and the right instructions. These preparation tips do not guarantee approval.
Start early
Allow time for gathering documents, preparing forms and attending any required appointment. Application preparation and the authority's decision are separate steps. Ask about current timelines rather than relying on a promised turnaround.
Use current official instructions
Check the requirements for your passport, destination and purpose of travel. Follow the required document formats and application route. Avoid assuming that a previous application or another traveller's checklist will apply to you.
Organise the evidence
Keep supporting documents together and check the names, dates and travel details across them. Documents such as proof of funds, accommodation or an invitation may be relevant, but the official instructions determine what you need.
Be truthful and prepare for your appointment
Provide accurate information throughout the application. If an interview or biometrics appointment is required, know the location, time and documents to bring. Explain your real circumstances rather than rehearsing an invented travel story.
